The former cover band Scorpions, already founded in 1965, entered the Hamburg Star Studios together with producer legend Conny Plank to record their debut album Lonesome Crow within one week. It was released as the first album under the newly founded Brain label in Germany in February 1972. It is the only record with lead guitarist Michael Schenker as a permanent member, just 16 at the time of the recording.
The peculiar, unpolished mix of heavy Sabbath grooves and psychedelic touches, some would call it „Heavy Kraut Rock“, is completely different from anything they would later release. Not really a killer album but a first step towards hard rock supremacy has been taken.
