S.F. Sorrow, the first real concept album was recorded at Abbey Road for a year from 1967 to 1968. Released in late 1968, this 60s British psychedelia gem by The Pretty Things was on the market almost six months earlier than Who's rock opera Tommy. The story of „Sebastian F. Sorrow“ from birth to disillusioned old age, written by Phil May, is accompanied by a blend of experimental rock, psychedelic pop, blues and folk with innovative arrangements. Although it was the band's most imaginative, daring and elaborate album, it went down disastrously. To make matters worse Beggars Banquet and The White Album were released in the same week and drew all the attention and support. Added to this was the rather dark and disillusioning content of the album and the lack of support from the record company.
Nevertheless, it is considered a true and timeless masterpiece that is sought after by collectors worldwide.
