There are over 30 „Standing Stones“ in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, many centuries old and wreathed in myth. One Standing Stone left by a certain Oliver Chaplin with this ultra-rare and expensive privately pressed album, which is an amalgam of progressive folk, blues and psychedelia.
He recorded everything directly onto a Teac4 channel machine using one microphone and direct injection guitar. Subsequently mixed by his brother Chris Chaplin, a BBC sound engineer.
His synthesis of already abstruse sources like Robert Johnson, Syd Barrett and Captain Beefheart is so imaginative that the end product is truly like nothing else, no exaggeration. One of the great lost albums from which only a handful of private-press copies were produced.
