Junipher Greene was formed in Oslo already in 1966, their debut album Friendship is the first double LP released by a Norwegian band. Released on Danish label Sonet with a cover painting by Odd Nerdrum in 1971, it is also one of Norway's earliest progressive albums. The band consisted of Bent Åserud (g, fl, harp, voc), Freddy Dahl (g, voc, vib), Helge Grøslie (voc, keyb), Øyvind Vilbo (b, voc), Geir Bøhren (dr, voc). The eighteen tracks show a mixture of heavy progressive rock, jazzy hammond organ, folk-rock, psychedelia and memorable melodies with English lyrics.
Unfortunately, it had virtually no success in their home country. After a second LP in 1973 and years on the road, they called it a day in the mid 70s.
The most influential Norwegian progressive rock album of all time has become something of a cult item and is incredibly rare nowadays.
