Hawkwind Is Space Rock! With these simple words, the Liberty record company advertised the eponymous debut of a more or less unknown band in the summer of 1970. Produced by Dick Taylor of Pretty Things, however, it features an extensive mix of psychedelic and progressive rock, which only led to the so-called space rock in the further course of music history. Mostly improvisational free-form freak out, it can be considered as Hawkwind's pinnacle, capturing the true spirit of this raw and collaborative musical movement.
Due to its later fame, this debut album was repressed many times. But only the English first pressing with the blue Liberty label is a worldwide sought-after collector's item today.
