Founded in Hannover in 1969, Eloy consisted of five members: Frank Bornemann (g, harp, perc), Manfred Wieczorke (g, b, voc), Wolfgang Stöcker (b), Erich Schriever (voc, keyb) and Helmuth Draht (dr). After winning a musical contest, they recorded their legendary debut album in 1971, which was released by major label Philips in a small amount of 1.000 copies only. Unlike their following progressive albums, this LP is pure early 70's hard rock with hints of psychedelia in typical German krautrock vein, produced by Conny Plank.
Arriving a few years too late the album sold poorly and sank without a trace, despite the eye-catching famous gimmick cover of the garbage can. Undoubtedly a sought-after mega rarity today.
