The English band Dr. Z was founded in London in 1969 as a quartet. After an unsuccessful single, they changed their musical style at the beginning of 1971 and continued as a three-piece with Keith Keyes (hpd, p, org, voc and a doctorate in music), Rob Watson (b) and Bob Watkins (dr). They got a record deal with the progressive Vertigo label and recorded their only record that same year. It impressively shows the virtuosity of Keith Keyes on keyboards, the imaginative bass playing of Rob Watson and the brilliant drummer Bob Watkins. The main concept is the division of human nature in three parts which are inimical to each other and this philosophical point of view is reflected in the lyrics. The wonderful design of the gimmix fold-out cover was created by Colin Fulcher.
From this keyboard-dominated progressive album only 80 Vertigo copies were sold. This makes it one of the most difficult major label releases to locate. But it is a great album!
