Considered by many as an acid folk masterpiece, this was the second and last album by Clive Palmer's side project. If only because of the unusual instrumentation, no one sounded like C.O.B. Clive Palmer played clarinets, violin, banjo, balalaika, guitars and vocals, Mick Bennett percussion, whistle, gong and vocals and John Bidwell with organ, guitar, whistle, vocals, balalaika and dulcitar, a modified dulcimer which sounds like a droning sitar.
The result is an overwhelmingly beautiful, intense and compelling collection of songs set to Celtic psych folk and Eastern-tinged arrangements. Released on Polydor's Folk Mill label in 1972 in an amazing Paul Whitehead cover, it was a Ralph McTell production with the support of Danny Thompson (Pentangle) on bowed double bass.
Sadly no one bought it, therefore they disbanded in 1973. It has since become a legend and has gained a real cult following over the years. This 1972 original vinyl is an impossible to find mega rarity.
