From Denmark, Burnin Red Ivanhoe released their first album in 1969 as one of the earliest prog rock albums of Scandinavia. Already formed in the mid-sixties they had enough material to even record a double LP. It is a remarkable debut in an era when 65 minutes was considered long like Zappa’s Uncle Meat. It plays even 89 minutes!
Blues rock with occasional interludes of saxophone and flute already point in the progressive direction. The longer pieces, expansive and complexly orchestrated, mostly with winds, offer psychedelic jazz rock with varied instrumental passages and virtuoso solos. Danish originals on the red Sonet label and the gimmicks gatefold cover with moving pieces are expensive and sought-after.
