Founded 1968 in London by Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke, who later get famous with Free, Black Cat Bones played a heavy guitar-driven psychedelic blues. The band is probably best known as the incubator of numerous famous bands such as Free (Paul Kossoff, Simon Kirke), Foghat (Rod Price) and Bad Company (Simon Kirke). The two brothers Derek and Stu Brooks and new band members renamed the group Leaf Hound, who recorded Growers Of Mushroom, one of the greatest lost hard rock albums of the 70s.
At their beginning they toured as a backing band for American R&B acts such as Champion Jack Dupree and gigged the London club and pub circuit the following two years. After getting the attention of producer Mike Vernon, they signed a record deal with Decca's progressive label Nova. With the line-up Brian Short (voc), Derek Brooks (g), Rod Price (g, voc), Stu Brooks (b) and Phil Lenoir (dr) they recorded their self-titled debut in 1970. Unfortunately, they split up after this album, which is now in great demand among collectors, especially as a British original.
