Bill Fay is an English singer, pianist and songwriter and Time Of The Last Persecution was his second and final album for Deram Records in 1971. In opposite to his first release the lush and classically-tinged arrangements were replaced by a smaller ensemble made up of bassist Daryl Runswick, drummer Alan Rushton, a three-piece horn section and producer/guitarist Ray Russell. It is a dark but spiritual journey led by Fay’s piano and his warm, weary voice and enriched by Russell’s prominent, edgy guitar.
Unfortunately, the album did not sell well and Decca (Deram was an imprint of Decca Records) decided to end his contract shortly after the release. The record almost disappeared without a trace and is now a worldwide rarity.
